In Search of an Executive Director
By Ted Reiff

It's official! In order to sustain growth and its financial, diversion, quality and customer-service objectives, TRP is seeking a fulltime operations manager. If all goes well, the person who fills this position will become executive director within a couple of years.

Given TRP’s entrepreneurial nature, evolving business model and aggressive business plan, the successful candidate needs to understand the company’s corporate culture and become thoroughly familiar with deconstruction and the role that TRP plays in the used building-materials industry.

TRP is organized by geographical region. Over a period of about two years, existing regions will one-by-one come under the stewardship of the operations manager. He or she will then assume the title of executive director, reporting directly to the company’s board of directors.

Our embryonic industry and pioneering company demand a formidable combination of skills. Leadership is the key skill -- the ability to maintain the vision, develop the talents of existing staff and add to and expand the company’s talent base while developing new business opportunities that utilize its core competencies.

The ideal candidate will also be a good administrator, a talented sales person and a competent financial manager, and will be adept at blending these abilities to address the changing priorities of the company.

TRP has completed the second year of a long-range strategic plan to build a distribution system for used building materials based upon the precept, "think locally and act globally." The company accomplishes this by salvaging the maximum aggregate of reusable materials and distributing them to markets where they can be used to greatest advantage. Local markets can rarely absorb all the materials salvaged from every deconstruction project, so when necessary TRP moves materials to other, more viable markets.

If you (or a friend, family member or acquaintance) are interested in being a part of our exciting journey and have the qualifications, please send cover letters and resumes to tedreiff@thereusepeople.org.
Special Event Reminder

If you want an excuse to visit a truly Midwestern city in full spring bloom, attend the Building Materials Reuse Association Conference, May 14 to 16, 2007, in Madison, Wisconsin. Visit . www.buildingreuse.org for more information.

The national conference of the USGBC will be held in Los Angeles next year, October 17-19, 2007.
