Build It and Win! Enter the 2010 Reuse Contest

It's that time of year again -- TRP's annual ReUse Contest is in full swing. By popular demand, we are extending the deadline for submissions from August 1 to August 31. If you are a new subscriber and unfamiliar with this contest, follow this link to obtain more information on how to win up to $225 in gift certificates from TRP: www.thereusepeople.org/TheReUseContest_2010.

As the contest becomes more popular, perhaps we should ask our local congressional representatives to introduce a bill declaring August as the official "Reuse Month." Hmmm -- stay tuned for a follow-up feature on that subject.

The 2008 and 2009 contests generated entries from six states and one foreign country, and enjoyed numerous noteworthy submissions. Contestants employed used building materials in the design and construction of:
• Complete windows, some using salvaged glass
• Several sets of exterior window shutters
• Wood decks
• Garage-to-office conversions
• Yurts of various designs
• A commercial conference room, complete with conference table
• Tree houses
• Cabins
• Chairs and benches
• Art objects, such as sculptures and collages
• Garden sheds

The winner of last year's contest was John Morrow. In May of this year TRP hired John to fill the position of TRP Northern California Regional Manager. Needless to say, you won't be competing with John this year.

The contest is open to anyone; you don't have to be a TRP customer. If you win, your gift certificate will be honored at the TRP retail-warehouse (or partnering warehouse) nearest you, including facilities in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Denver, Kansas City, Chicago, New Britain and our newest region, Dallas (look for more information on the Dallas region in the September issue).

Photos of winning entries will also be featured in TRP's booth at West Coast Green in San Francisco.

Hurry up and get those entries in by August 31. Just for entering, you'll receive a $25 TRP gift certificate. First, second and third place entries (as judged by a three-person panel) will receive additional gift certificates of $200, $100 and $50 respectively.
