This seems to be a year of early harvests. At home in Southern California, my navel orange tree, which usually isn’t ready for picking until late February, began yielding an abundant crop (over 500 so far) in late December. While up in the Bay Area, business that is usually dormant in the early part of the year started picking up ahead of schedule at TRP.
January and February have rarely produced substantial numbers of deconstruction and salvage projects. This year is different. The first two months have produced 23 residential projects, including full deconstructions, remodels and five house moves. We typically wouldn’t achieve those numbers until March or April.
In addition, TRP has conducted over 10 commercial building surveys, seven inventory audits and two diversion reports in the first two months alone. These include two municipal projects, four commercial businesses, and seven at universities.
More early year happenings: In February, TRP hosted the first in a series of deconstruction workshops. The next is scheduled for June 20. Plus, four cities and one county have requested TRP’s white paper and related information on deconstruction ordinances.
Finally, our partner facility, Building ReSources of San Francisco, Inc., dramatically intensified its cleanup efforts, which allowed BRSF to increase its receipt and distribution of locally salvaged materials by 37.9 percent.
I just love early harvests.
